EXAMS and GRADES: There will be three in-class exams, of which the one with the lowest score will be dropped, and a final exam. There will be NO make-up exams; if you miss and exam, then that exam is the one that will be dropped. Each in-class exam is worth 15% of your grade for a total of 50%. The final exam is worth 35% (Photo ID must be shown in turning your exams.)

You may use a calculator for the exams and you may bring one sheet of notes to each of the in-class exams (one side), and two sheets of notes to the Final Exam (meaning both sides of 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet). Partial credit on problems will be awarded, but very sparingly.

Each exam will be separately curved. This means that there will be a curve for each exam and the letter grade obtained at each stage is independent of the others.

Daily Reactions : At the end of each class, you will be asked to submit on a 3 by 5 card your name, the date, and at least on sentence reaction to that day's class, indicating what you learned, or something you liked or disliked, found interesting or dull, found clear, confusing or too simple, or any general comments about the course. You can submit a Reaction only if you were present. (I will read read these reactions after class but will not return or comment on them.)

Discussion Sections : There is a TA assigned to this course, he holds the discussion sections. The TA will attend the lecture. The TA is there to help you with problems and is the person to go for assistance. It is to your advantage to make use of this opportunity.

Students are expected to participate in their discussion sections, and 15% of the total grade will relfect their participation. This will be computed on the basis of various factors that may include class participation, quizzes and/or homework assignments. The precise formula is at the discretion of each TA and will be announced in the individual discussion sections.
